Thrissur: BJP has been pressurising actor-turned Rajya Sabha MP Suresh Gopi to contest from Vattiyoorkkavu in the upcoming assembly polls. BJP core committee meeting held in Thrissur proposed Suresh Gopi's name as a candidate.
The BJP members who attended the meeting demanded Suresh Gopi's name from Vattiyoorkkavu or Thiruvananthapuram.
But Suresh Gopi informed the party that he won't be able to contest as he has one more term in the Rajya Sabha. At the same time, if the national leadership directs Suresh Gopi, he will contest in the assembly polls from Vattiyoorkkavu.
In the last Lok Sabha elections, Suresh Gopi contested from Thrissur. If Suresh Gopi contests from Vattiyoorkkavu, BJP will field VV Rajesh from Thiruvananthapuram seat. Or the seats will be exchanged.
BJP is mulling to field state president K Surendran from Konni and union minister Muraleedharan from Kazhakoottam. But it is unlikely that both will be fielded.
Earlier Surendran informed the party that he will coordinate the campaign and not contest the polls.
Meanwhile, V Muraleedharan informed the party that he is ready to contest from Kazhakoottam. Muraleedharan was placed second during the last polls.
O Rajagopal will not contest and Kummanam Rajasekharan may contest from Nemom this time.
Former BJP president PK Krishnadas will contest from Kattakkada.
